BitTorrent x Gravitas: The Dear Mr. Watterson Bundle

Despite not having any actual animated series to its name, there is no denying that Bill Watterson’s iconic comic strip Calvin and Hobbes has influenced a large number of creators that are working in the industry right now. In fact, it wouldn’t come off as much of a hyperbole to say that everybody who has ever had a chance to follow the comic strip loved it. To wit, you either love Calvin and Hobbes, or you haven’t read it yet.

As for why Bill Watterson’s seminal work about the lives of a hyper-imaginative boy and his pet stuffed tiger has managed to touch the hearts and minds of entire generations of readers, we’re not exactly in the position to provide answers – it takes a genius to explain genius, as they say. Or at least, it takes a bunch of ’em.

Here’s where the documentary Dear Mr. Watterson comes in. Directed by Joel Allen Schroeder, it doesn’t really attempt to expound on the reasons why Calvin and Hobbes was such a successful work of art, but it does let you come to answers of your own as it takes you on a journey, tracing the lifetime of the comic strip and the lives of its readers, including industry professionals like Seth Green, or other influential cartoonists like Berkeley Breathed an Stephan Thomas Pastis.
