Boonie Bears: Blast into the Past Earns $100M at the Box Office
Chinese CG studio Fantawild seems to have struck gold with their sixth theatrical outing, Boonie Bears: Blast into the Past. The film premiered during the first day of Chinese New Year (February 5) and has since earned more than 675 million CNY (roughly $100M USD).
Boonie Bears: Blast into the Past is a CG animated comedy adventure film about bear siblings Briar and Bramble, as well as their friend Vick. The trio find themselves going on an accidental trip to the past. On their way back to the 21st century, they encounter all sorts of dangers and exotic animals ranging from wild boars and giant turtles to adorable pandas.
The film also holds the distinction of ranking fourth in the overall China box office and dethroning the hybrid animation/live action movie Peppa Pig Celebrates Chinese New Year, and has surpassed the Chinese box office record of Kung Fu Panda 2.
