According to a recent Variety report, American Greeting Properties is currently preparing a new TV Reboot of the cuddly favorites The Care Bears, which will coincide with their 30th anniversary. The Care Bears reboot will be targeted towards girls aged 2 to 7, and will feature updates on the characters, which will help the series connect with children without alienating parents who were fans of the original series.
The original Care Bears first appeared as greeting card characters back in 1981, and have been reintroduced to fans back in 2002 through toys and merchandise, as well as several direct to video adventures like Care Bears: Journey to Joke-a-Lot, The Care Bears’ Big Wish Movie and Care Bears: Oopsy Does It . The planned reboot is expected to open the doors to new opportunities for the franchise, such as a new batch of films, more toys, and maybe even a videogame.
“The Care Bears are not just a piece of the pop culture fabric, but their messages of caring and sharing are as relevant today as they were when the property was first introduced,” said Gabrielle Oliff, marketing director for American Greetings Properties. “For us, TV is the anchor. We look at every consumer touch-point we can create for the brand. From TV comes DVD, consumer products, publishing and a huge presence online. Entertainment really helps kids learn how to play with the toys.”
