Cartoon Network is helping launch a new franchise that will blend TV and gaming together in a single, seamless adventure experience. The franchise starts with the recently greenlighted animated action series OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes, which is being supported by an integrated console/PC game jointly developed with indie studio Capybara Games.
The series is created by Jones-Quartey and produced by Cartoon Network Studios. The story is set in Lakewood Plaza, which is a mall for heroes where the titular K.I. and his cool crew are trying to outdo each other through leveling up and overcoming the obstacles sent their way by the villain Lord Boxman. The series will be previewed at SXSW on March 13, and is slated for a summer premiere in the US, followed by a worldwide rollout.
The game, on the other hand, will be an action brawler with RPG elements. Interested parties will be able to see the game in action when it is previewed at PAX East on March 10.
“For me, video games and animation have a lot in common and having fun is the main goal,
Said Jones-Quartey. “OK K.O.! is a video game-inspired world expressed through the language of animation, but mostly an adventurous playground with heart-warming heroes who battle against robots.”
