Cbeebies has just been appointed as the UK Broadcast partner for the new CG-animated series Peter Rabbit, which is a co-production of Penguin, Silvergate Media, and Nickelodeon US (which is also the lead US broadcaster for the show). The series is scheduled to launch on the kids’ network via a one-off Christmas special on December this year, while the main 52×11 series will start airing in Spring, 2013.
Peter Rabbit is a modern reimagining of the classic tales, with all new storylines that aim to preserve the wit, humor, and magic of Beatrix Potter’s world. The show focuses on the mischief and adventures of Peter Rabbit and his friends, the loyal Benjamin Bunny and a new character named Lily, who is a curious bobtail rabbit.
The Peter Rabbit special’s broadcast later this year will coincide with the 110th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which was originally published by Frederick Warne (now an imprint of Penguin Children’s Books). The classic kids’ book has managed to sell 150 million copies worldwide in 35 different languages since then. Penguin will be supporting the 2013 series launch with a full publishing program and additional licensed merchandise.
