CG-Animated Farmville Movie Adaptation a Possibility
Whether it’s a straight adaptation of an existing franchise like Street Fighter or a film like Scott Pilgrim VS the World, which simply borrows heavily from popular gaming tropes and concepts, Hollywood is no stranger to videogame-to-movie adaptations. But these adaptations are live-action, and tend to focus more on heavy console-based franchises than games based on lighter fare, and chances are you’ve never seen a CG-animated movie based on a casual, flash-based game. That could all change in the near future.
In a recent interview with the folks at IGN, Toy Story writers Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow have dropped a hint that they are in talks with Farmville creators Zynga over a possible film adaptation of its popular browser based game:
“So, yes, we will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We’re in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can’t really say too much on that front yet, but ‘Old MacDonald’ didn’t have a factory, if you get our drift.”
Like with anything in Hollywood, this is not set in stone and things could happen one way or another, resulting in massive delays or even complete cancellation of the project – but if this project ever goes through, you have to wonder what story they’ll be able to spin out of a game where the sole purpose is to
rip off Harvest Moon spend the whole day tending to farms and animals?
…and wouldn’t it make more sense to make a movie out of birds who try to destroy helmet-wearing pigs?
