Channel 5’s Greatest Kids TV Shows Gives Bagpuss Top Rank
Coolabi and Smallfilms have jointly announced that UK’s Channel 5 has voted Bagpuss as the third greatest kids TV program, as well as the highest ranking character-based show of all time on their “Greatest Kids TV Shows” programming event, which aired last November 8th. The Greatest Kids TV Shows was a nostalgic countdown of the 50 best British kids’ TV series over the past 60 years.
The Bagpuss series originally aired on the BBC in 1974, and while there were only 13 episodes ever made, the shows ran for 26 weeks a year for 13 years. The series focuses on a little girl named Emily, who gathers lost and broken things and displays them in a window of a shop so that their owners could come and collect them. Her favorite stuffed toy, an old, saggy, and pink-colored cat named Bagpuss would magically come to life and help.
Coolabi CEO, Jeremy Banks comments, “Bagpuss beat off stiff competition to reach the number three spot and was also voted the greatest character-based TV show in the past 60 years. It is a series that audiences have enjoyed since the 70’s and we are proud that the classic property is still going strong today. Bagpuss is commemorating its 40th anniversary next year with a host of exciting marketing activities and licensing programmes to celebrate this milestone in style.”
