According to a recent Variety report, Sony Animation Studios has tapped Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn to direct the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, both of them worked as artists for the original. Variety noted that the project is still under development and has not yet received an official greenlight from the mother studio.
The first film, Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs, was based on a popular children’s book about a young scientist who can turn weather into food. The book was written by Judy and Ronn Barret, while the movie was helmed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord (of Clone High). The film eventually went on to break box office records worldwide, with a record of $230 million overall take. Both Lord and Miller will still be part of the sequel, serving as executive producers.
Cameron was originally a story artist on the first Cloudy movie, while Pearn was head of story. The sequel will also feature veteran Sony Animation producer Kirk Bodyfelt (of Open Season 2 and 3). The script will be penned by John Francis Daley and Johnatan Goldstein.
