Community goes anime
While Community is one of the funniest and most popular shows on network TV these days, it really doesn’t belong on Toonbarn since it’s a live action show, without even the tiniest of CG effects. That all changed last December 1, for a single day at least, as NBC’s Community joined in on the 80s anime parody bandwagon with an episode that casts the entire cast of community college as Voltron-era anime characters.
Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is that the animation doesn’t look authentic (If I didn’t tell you it was parodying Voltron, you won’t even make the connection), but you will still find that the animation style reminds you of something, primarily because it was done by the same guys responsible for the much-missed Megas XLR show.
The animated episode was directed by Grif Kimmins, Produced by Ben Kalina, and animated by Parker Simmons. BG Layout and Paint duties was handled by Lauren Airres and Khang Li, and Composite was done by Mike Newton.
