Creator to End Gravity Falls


Despite being one of the most popular current shows on Disney XD, fans may need to say their goodbyes to the horror-themed comedy series Gravity Falls. The show isn’t being cancelled, but creator Alex Hirsch has decided to end the series. Hirsch announced the decision on his Tumblr account:

There’s no easy way to say it so I’m just going to say it: Gravity Falls is coming to an end,” Hirsch wrote on his Tumblr. “There are two more episodes left: ‘Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality’ and ‘Weirdmageddon III’ which will be our hour-long series finale. After that, Gravity Falls as we know it will be over.”

Disney XD has also confirmed the end of the show:

“Alex made the decision to conclude the story at this time, and while we’re disappointed we all won’t have the opportunity to explore more of the Gravity Falls world, we respect his creative vision.”

Hirsch made a point to clarify that the decision to finish the series came from him, and that the show was not in any way or even came close to being canceled. Instead, he is just staying with his plan to give the series a finite structure:

“It’s being finished. This is 100% my choice, and it’s something I decided on a very long time ago,” he says. “I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end. There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff.”
