The Croods Proves its Mettle at the Box Office
After the seemingly bad spell that DreamWorks has undergone (including massive writeoffs, lost of investor confidence, and layoffs), they seem to have turned a corner and are now on their way to regaining a financial foothold, as their first animated feature of 2013, The Croods, proved to be a massive hit at the box office.
The Croods, which focuses on a family of cavemen/women, managed to snag an estimated $44.7 million over the weekend. Certainly a far cry from the poor showing from Rise of the Guardians last November.
The Croods also performed spectacularly overseas, bringing in over $63.3 million and confirmed as the number opening feature in 44 markets. The preshistoric toon played on 11,870 screens in 47 markets and 86 countries worldwide.
Even the whole Rise of the Guardians debacle seems to have started righting itself, as the movie, despite performing poorly at the box office, is now doing solid numbers when it comes to home entertainment sales.
