Technicolor has recently inked a number of European broadcast deals for their new CG-animated series The Deep. The deals were signed with Ketnet in Belgium, NRK in Norway, SVT n Sweden, and YLE in Finland. They will be joining existing broadcast partners Super RTL in Germany and Seven and Network and ABC3 for Australia. The series is currently in production, with 26 x 30 minute episodes on the way.
Technicolor will serve as the exclusive international distributor for all areas outside of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and will be holding worldwide licensing and merchandising rights, and will be managing the global broadcast rollout of the series and any brand extension licensing opportunities.
For the uninitiated, The Deep is a collaborative effort between Canada’s Nerd Corps Entertainment and Australia’s A Stark Production and is based on the internationally acclaimed graphic novel series from Tom Taylor. The story focuses on the adventures of the Nekton Family, a family of underwater explorers consisting of the independent and fearless 12-year-old Antaeus (Ant); his analytical 15-year-old sister Fontaine, an astute navigator; their parents Will, an oceanographer, and Kaiko, a marine biologist; and, of course…Jeffrey, Ant’s pet fish!
“Our new best-in-class broadcast partners share our enthusiasm for The Deep, and recognize its unique aspects which transcend ages, melding undersea adventures and exploration with family dynamics aboard a state-of-the-art submarine,” commented Warner. “There really is no other property like it in the marketplace.”
