Dennis and Gnasher Ready for a Comeback
Sticky Pictures and Red Kite Animations has recently announced that a new series of Dennis and Gnasher has started production. Slated for a mid 2013 premiere, the new 52×12/26×24 series will renew the partnership with the characters’ rights owner DC Thomson. The show will be a co-pro commissioned by CBBC and the Nine Network, and will be helmed by Sueann Smith for Red Kite and Jane Schneider and Stu Connolly for Sticky Pictures.
Dennis and Gnasher focuses on characters from one of UK’s most popular children’s comics, The Beano, which is also responsible for iconic British characters such as Roger the Dodger, Minnie the Minx, and The Bash Street Kids. Dennis the Menace and his dog Gnasher first appeared in comic form in March 1951, and is still the longest-running strip in the weekly comic.
“We’re delighted that Dennis and Gnasher is returning to CBBC,” says Melanie Halsall, executive producer, CBBC. “It’s a great show with fantastic characters and we are sure that this series is going to be bigger, better and more menacing than ever before.”
