Discovery and Nelvana Join Forces for redknot
Discovery, Inc. And Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana have recently announced a joint venture called “redknot.” The joint venture leads to the approval of two new animated series: The Dog & Pony Show and Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe. They also brought in Patricia Burns as the company’s Executive Manager and Supervising Producer.
As for the name of the new project, redknot takes its name from the shoebird that travels between South America and Canada as well as other parts of the globe. It completely explains why the name was chosen, given the goals of the joint venture. The name also contains the initials of Discovery Kids (DK) and Nelvana (N), which is pretty clever on their part.
Key executives from both parent companies including Scott Dyer, President of Nelvana, and Carolina Lightcap, EVP and Chief Content Officer of Discovery Latin America/U.S. Hispanic, are members of the board.
“This partnership combines two companies with decades of experience delivering great content to kids.” said Dyer. “This is an exciting new dimension to our growing relationship as redknot creates a pipeline of premium kids content for linear and digital markets around the world.”
“We’re thrilled to see such momentum at redknot, with the greenlight of two fantastic animated series, exploring universal themes such as friendship and curiosity, that will delight kids and families throughout the world,” said Lightcap.
