Disney Announces 101 Dalmatian Street, Space Chickens in Space
Disney Channel EMEA has revealed a slate of new programming at this week’s Annecy Animation Festival in France. The headliner is 101 Dalmatian Street, a new take on the classic Disney film, but the channel has also announced a few other new titles and the renewals of some favorites.
101 Dalmatian Street is a new series based on a pitch by Anttu Harlin and Joonas Utti from Finnish studio Gigglebug Entertainment and developed by Disney’s original animation team in London with Passion Animation Studios. The series will be written by Maria O’Loughlin and directed by Miklos Weigert. It tells the story of a family dalmatians cooped up together in a modern London house as parents and grandparents deal with 99 pups. The series is due out worldwide next year and will run for 48 eleven-minute episodes. Additionally, two 101 Dalmatian Street TV specials will be produced. Those will run for 22 minutes.
Space Chickens in Space is a 52x11mins surrealist comedy about a group of chickens that mistakenly find themselves enrolled in an inter-galactic military academy. The series is being produced by Anima Estudios/CAKE/Studio Moshi and Gingerbread based on a concept by designers/directors Tommy and Markus Vad Flaaten. Space Chickens in Space will also inspire two eleven-minute shorts.
Disney EMEA has renewed PJ Masks and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. The former is for a second season consisting of 26 episodes, due out in 2018. The latter gets a second and third season order with no specific window announced. The company also reconfirmed their plans to have Gigantosaurus due out in 2019.
