Disney Prepping Live Action Beauty and the Beast
According to a recent report by Variety, Disney has tapped Bill Condon to direct a new live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, with Evan Spiliotopoulos writing the script and Mandeville Films producing.
The last time Disney had a direct hand in a big screen adaptation of Beauty and the Beast was in 1991 via the animated version, which managed to gross more than $375 million worldwide and spawned a Broadway play. It is also one of the few animated features to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
Additionally, Disney is also developing a live action take on The Jungle Book, with Jon Favreau attached as director, and Cinderella, which is directed by Kenneth Branagh.
