It’s only been a few days since news of Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm broke out, there are now rumors floating around that Disney and Hasbro are in talks about a possible acquisition. While it’s still unconfirmed rumor, Disney’s previous buyouts – which includes Marvel Comics and Pixar – certainly lends a little bit of weight to the rumors, as it shows that the house of mouse does not shy away from buying companies with lucrative properties and brands.
If Disney manages to acquire Hasbro, they’ll have access to a rich library of properties that have been successful as toys, cartoons, movies, comic books, and videogames, including Transformers, My Little Pony, GI Joe, Nerf, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, and hundreds of other classic franchises from the 80s and early 90s,
The rumors state that it’s still under talks, but the talks are serious enough that an announcement could be given at any time. However, these talks have a tendency to drag on. The LucasFilm acquisition, for instance, took as long as 6 months to complete.
