Disney’s Brave to Close Edinburgh Fest in European Premiere
Disney-Pixar’s newest 3D animated feature, Brave, is scheduled to have its European premiere on June 30. Slated as the closing film of the Edinburgh Film festival, the European premiere will work as a “coming home” of sorts for the animated feature.
Set in a fictional medieval Scotland, Brave tells the story of Merida, a princess and archer who confronts an ancient evil even if it meant going against the wishes of her family and culture. Brave’s cast features several Scots, including Craig Ferguson, Billy Connolly, and Kelly Macdonald.
Brave’s premiere at the Edinburgh Film Fest is considered a boon for Scotland’s touristic and cinematic features, and for the festival itself.
“Brave will be the most high-profile film ever set in, and themed around, Scotland, featuring Scottish stars. We are looking at a film which comes from the award-winning team behind such box office smashes as Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Up, and will create global buzz when it is released,” said First Minister Alex Salmond in announcing the premiere.
