According to a recent report by Variety, Fujiko Fujio’s iconic manga/anime franchise Doraemon will be officially making its way to the US this summer via Disney XD. The acquisition is a result of an agreement between Walt Disney and TV Asahi. Disney XD will be airing the English-dubbed version in an unspecified date in the summer, five times a week, with a total runtime of 26 episodes.
For the uninitiated, Doraemon focuses on a cat-like robot sent by a boy from the future in order to help his grandfather solve his problems. The first TV series aired in Japan in 1973 and has since been shown in over 35 key territories, garnering a huge following. The franchise is very popular outside of Japan, particularly in East Asian countries.
