eOne to Develop New Show Based on Osamu Tezuka's Black Jack

Entertainment One has recently acquired the worldwide rights to a TV show based on Osamu Tezuka’s (Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion) popular manga Black Jack. The LA based indie studio is planning to create a new live action TV series based on the classic 1970s property.

Taka Ichise and Doug Davison (The Ring, The Grudge) are attached as executive producers, along with Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell of Artist International. Jen Chambers and Adam Blumberg will be helming the show on behalf of eOne.

The Black Jack series first came to lfie in Japan in 1973, following the adventures of the titular doctor/detective as he is pitted against terrorists and a global conspiracy. The Black Jack manga is one of the most popular properties during its time, being able to sell over 50 million copies in Japan alone, with the animated series proving to be a cult hit when translated and aired in different countries.
