Sony Pictures Animation has recently provided a first glimpse at its new digital age comedy, Emojimovie: Express Yourself. The company has also announced that Emmy nominee Ilana Glazer (Broad City) and Tony and Emmy award winner James Corden (Into the Woods) are joining T.J. Miller (Deadpool) as lead voice casts.
“Over six billion emojis are texted every day, and emojis have become a universal language that transcends age and culture.The power of emojis is that they allow you to express yourself in a fast and very fun way, and that is what our movie is about: self expression,” said Kristine Belson, President of SPA. “We are very lucky to have some of the smartest and funniest actors today bringing their unique voices to this movie.
Emojimovie: Express Yourself delves into the secret world inside your smartphone, where concealed within the messaging app is Textopolis – a busy city where all emojis live and anticipate to be chosen by the phone’s user. The emojis have only one expression except for Gene (T.J. Miller), an enthusiastic emoji who cannot restrain his expressions. Gene is determined to be ‘normal’ so he enrols his best friend Hi-5 (James Corden) and code breaker Jailbreaker (Glazer) and together, they get on an ambitious ‘app-venture’ through the phone in order to find the Code that will be able to fix Gene. However, a huge danger threatens the phone so they should save their world before it is deleted forever.
The film will be released by Columbia Pictures on August 11, 2017.
