Free to Play Family Guy MMO in Open Beta
Family Guy not exactly the first cartoon franchise people have in mind when it comes to shows ripe for an MMO adaptation, but Twentieth Century Fox and Roadhouse Entertainment went ahead and did it -they made and launched the open beta for the worlds first MMLOL or Massively Multiplayer Laught Out Loud(they came up with the term, don’t blame us) Game, Family Guy Online.
Family Guy Online brings Seth MacFarlane’s characters to cel-shaded 3D life, while giving fans and gamers alike a chance to craft their own custom Family Guy-inspired character based on four different classes with their own special skills and weapons. This is no social interaction-only game, as players have to go on an adventure through Quahog’s various landmarks and battle enemies. In game cash (called clams) can be used to purchase customizing items and character upgrades. The game will have a microtransaction based store soon, but will remain free to play.
“We worked very closely with the show writers so that Family Guy Online encapsulates the well-known Family Guy brand of humor with the best elements of online multiplayer games, which is why we see it as a MMLOL,” said Ian Verchere, chief creative officer for Roadhouse Interactive. “The feedback from our closed beta has been amazing, and we’re extremely happy to now be able to open up Family Guy Online to everyone.”
