After the overwhelming success of Archer and the decent following that Unsupervised got, it seems that FX has finally realized that there is indeed a market for homegrown animated shows these days, which is why they have decided to develop a new half-hour animated show with Aqua Teen Hunger Force co-creator Matt Maiellero and newcomer Grand Dekernion. The show they are collaborating on focuses on a man who is recently released from prison.
According to a recent Hollywood Reporter article, Dekernion, who is a friend of Danny McBride, submitted the original pitch to McBride’s production shingle, Rough House. McBride is also lending his voice to a regular character in the show.
If the project goes through and is greenlit as a regular series, both Dekernion and Maiellaro will be credited as co-creators, writers, and executive producers. Maiellero is will be doing the main duties as the showrunner. Rough House’s execs McBride, David Gordon Green, and Jody Hill will also get executive producer credits.
