GKids Picks Up Zarafa and Rabbi’s Cat US Rights
According to a recent Variety report, American Indie distributor GKids has recently picked up the North American distribution rights to the French animated features The Rabbi’s Cat and Zarafa. The announcements were made on the eve of the Annecy Animation Film Festival and at the end of the debut of the limited release weekend for the Oscar nominated film A Cat in Paris.
The Rabbi’s Cat is directed and produced by Joan Starr who wrote the graphic novel that the film was based upon. The movie follows the story of a cat whose owner is a rabbi’s daughter in 1920 Algiers. The movie wan a Gallic Cesar award, and was honored last year at Annecy festival with the Annecy Crystal.
Zarafa is included in this year’s Annecy Competition, and is inspired by the true story of an Egyptian boy and a baby giraffe who managed to travel from Sudan to Paris in 1824. The film is directed by Remi Bezancon and Jean Christophe Lie.
