Gladiators of Rome Premieres at the LA Italia Festival
The much anticipated CG animated 3D feature from Iginio Straffi, Gladiators of Rome, has recently made its North American debut at the Los Angeles-Italia Film, Fashion, and Art Festival last February 17, Friday. Iginio Straffi is perhaps most famous for being behind the popular Winx Club franchise, and for founding Rainbow Media. The LA Italia Festival will also screen the Winx Club 3D: Magical Adventure feature film this coming February 20 at 6:30 PM.
“Top quality animation is not the exclusive property of Pixar and Dreamworks and Fox,” Straffi recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “We think we have a top-quality product here, and we’re pleased it’s making its way to the important U.S. market.”
Gladiators of Rome, which was formerly titled Not Born to be Gladiators, is considered as one of the most expensive Italian films ever made, with an estimated $45 million price tag. It originally opened in Italy last October, with the plot focusing on the adventures of a young orphan named Timo, who is saved by the founder of the most famous Gladiators’ Academy of Rome. While Timo initially had no interest in becoming a fighter, the appearance of the academy founder’s beautiful daughter convinced him otherwise.
