If last year’s Gnomeo and Juliet wasn’t enough and you still want more Shakespearean garden ornaments, then this will be good news: Gnomeo and Juliet producers Steve Hamilton Shaw, David Furnish, and Elton John are currently working on a sequel to the CG-animated comedy, according to a recent Deadline.com report.
The original film’s scriptwriters Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley are back on board, as well as director Kelly Asbury. Elton John will again be in charge of the project’s music.
Tentatively titled Gnomeo and Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes, the sequel will feature a new character who has been described as the greatest of all lawn ornament detectives – no doubt based on Sherlock Holmes. The film deals with the mystery of gnomes who mysteriously vanish from the suburban gardens of England, with Sherlock Gnomes himself being in charge of the case. Oddly enough, Sherlock Gnomes is neither as intelligent nor insightful as his human counterpart, which is unfortunate because the crimes against gnomanity seem to have consequences that are far bigger than they can ever imagine.
The film is still in the preproduction stage, and as such, no release dates have been given.
