Harry Potter Spin-Off: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Harry Potter

When Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling announced that a new Harry Potter-related film is in the works, we knew that we had not seen the last of Harry Potter yet. Even after the last book in the series was shown on the big screen, there was this nagging feeling that it is not the end. After all, the world of Harry Potter is vast and ripe for a spin-off.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will mark J.K. Rowling’s debut as a screenwriter; something that was not completely unexpected. She tried her hand at writing an adult novel (Casual Vacancy), which had lukewarm reviews, and sneakily wrote a critically acclaimed suspense novel (The Cuckoo’s Calling) under a pseudonym, Robert Galbraith. Screenwriting was just the next logical step for Rowling.

To those who are not aware of the origins of the Fantastic Beasts, it is a Hogwarts textbook that made an appearance in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. From the title alone, we can expect to see magical creatures, beings, and characters and be introduced to new adventures. Rowling was quick to say that Fantastic Beasts is not    a sequel nor a prequel, but “an extension of the wizarding world.” In fact, it will be the story of the textbook’s fictitious author Newt Scamander, set 70 years before Harry’s story.

What is particularly interesting is that Fantastic Beasts is being developed across different platforms. This means hordes of fans can expect to see the characters in video games, apps, consumer products, and other digital platforms.

Now, the question is, which Harry Potter characters would likely make a cameo appearance in the film? My money is on Albus Dumbledore (after all, he wrote the Foreword).
