North American anime streaming service HIDIVE has announced a new initiative to offer English dubbed content shortly after its Japanese broadcast. Called Dubcasts, the aim is to provide localized material within two weeks of its debut in Japanese.
The first Dubcast title will be Devil’s Line. Set in a shadowy, often violent world where vampires repress their bloodlust to survive alongside humanity, a chance encounter and unlikely entanglement risk exposing the darkness that lies in every heart. Produced by Platinum Vision, the series adapts Ryo Hanada’s manga series of the same name.
The series will be available to subscribers in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, Scandinavia, South Africa, Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands. In addition to the dubbed version, HIDIVE is also streaming the Japanese version the same day it launches in Japan. The show premieres in Japan on April 7th, with the English version set to launch within two weeks of that date.
The second dubcast title, DOREIKU The Animation will premiere in Japan on April 12th. A same day simulcast and the dubcast will be available in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Latin America, the Netherlands and Scandinavia.
“We are extremely pleased to continue to enhance HIDIVE’s value proposition by providing subscribers with one of their most frequently requested features: early access to dubbed content, through the addition of our DUBCAST feature,” said John Ledford, President and CEO of HIDIVE. “The localization, studio operations, and creative teams that power HIDIVE are some of the best in the business and we intend to leverage their experience spanning across three decades to deliver compelling local-language dubbed editions to fans in record time.”
The move mirrors what competitor Funimation has been doing. The Flower Mound, Texas-based distributor began their broadcast dub program in 2014, which offered English dubbed shows within a month after their Japanese debut. That has since involved to their Simuldub program, which has some shows debuting the same day as their Japanese broadcast.
HIDIVE is affiliated with anime distributor Sentai Filmworks.
