Hulu has recently announced its first ever multi-year deal with DreamWorks Animation. The deal will give Hulu exclusive streaming rights to future slates of DreamWorks Animation’s feature films, along with their iconic DreamWorks library films.
The deal makes Hulu the exclusive US streaming home for DreamWorks’ future theatrical releases starting in 2019, which will include franchise films such as How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, The Boss Baby 2 and Trolls 2.
Additionally, the deal will also allow Hulu to collaborate with DreamWorks Animation Television in order to co-develop exclusive original content based on the studio’s popular franchises. The deal marks the first time Hulu has partenered with a major studio in a multiseries and multi-year deal. DreamWorks, on the other hand, has partnered with other streaming platforms. The studio has debuted more than a dozen series on Netflix since 2013, which has a long-term non-exclusive agreement with DreamWorks. DreamWorks has also announced two original programs for Amazon Studios, namely The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle and Kung Fu Panda: Paws of Destiny.
