Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me 2 in theaters July 3rd 2013

Universal Pictures unveils plans to release Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me 2 on July 3, 2013, per Coming Soon. The movie is a sequel to Illumination’s CG animated 3D movie Despicable Me, which opened July 9, 2010.

Last summer, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment teamed on a memorable CG animated project filled with delightful little yellow happiness, three adoring little girls, and a number of the world’s greatest super villains. …doesn’t exactly sound family friendly, but we can put a spin on anything! The result was the very successful Despicable Me, which helped usher in a seemingly never-ending string of 3D movies. Now, Illumination and Universal are planning to get Despicable all over again, bringing a sequel to the franchise into our lives, hitting theaters for an anticipated launch July 3rd, 2013. Whether or not we’ll have flying cars by then, and/or if 3D will continue to be so popular, we don’t know. But as long as we get to hang out with the minions again, we’re happy!
