The London Philharmonic Orchestra will be staging a live concert with the accompaniment of HD footage from Walt Disney’s original 1940 Fantasia, as well as the 2000 version at the Royal Albert Hall on Oct 21.
The music will be performed live, in sync to the movements from the Disney footage, particularly the iconic scene in which Mickey Mouse brings a broom to life in Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and the mythological characters that dance and frolic to Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony.
“I am so pleased that new technology, film restoration, and support of Disney Animation make it possible for orchestras to recreate Fantasia’s magic in the concert hall,” says Disney executive producer Jonathan Heely.
Aside from Disney’s Fantasia, the other movies that were presented with music from a live orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall include The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Matrix.
