Lucas the Spider series, feature film in development

Canadian entertainment company Fresh TV has acquired the exclusive rights to YouTube sensation Lucas the Spider. The people behind the Total Drama franchise are looking to develop the adorable arachnid into an ongoing series and feature-length project.

Originally intended as a test animation, the six existing Lucas shorts have amassed a gigantic 65 million views on YouTube since the character’s debut last November. Created by animator Joshua Slice, who has worked on films like Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Ferdinand and Epic, the tiny spider was made with the intention of getting people more comfortable with our eight-legged housemates. In the existing shorts, Lucas is voiced by Slice’s nephew.

Lucas has discovered a dog he thought was a polar bear, escaped capture under a glass, and journeyed through the sink. What kind of other adventures would you like to see him partake in? Leave your ideas in the comments below!

It’s a busy time for the Toronto-based Fresh TV. In addition to Lucas, the company is hard at work on a new spinoff of their Total Drama franchise for Cartoon Network.
