Ludo Studio Kickstarts Production on New Preschool Series, BLUEY
Australian studio Ludo Studio has just started production on a new animated series targeted towards preschoolers, titled “Bluey.” This new series is borne from the fertile mind of Charlie Brumm (Charlie and Lola) and will consist of 52 x 7 minute episodes. The series was commissioned by ABC KIDS and BBC Worldwide, with funding courtesy of Screen Australia and Screen Queensland.
Bluey follows the titular cuddly, inexhaustible six year old Blue Heeler puppy as she lives her fun, happy life with her dad, mum, and four year old little sister, Bingo. Each episode will focus on Bluey as she uses her boundless energy to construct elaborate games that usually unfold in unpredictable and humorous ways.
“Bluey is based on the experience of raising two daughters,” said Brumm. “Playing seems as natural to them as breathing. It’s fascinating seeing how much they learn from devising and playing their own games, especially the more elaborate and social ones. So Bluey is a celebration of the role of imaginative play in shaping healthy kids. We’re excited to express this universal message in a uniquely Australian setting.”
Bluey will start airing on ABC KIDS and ABC KIDS iView in 2019, followed by broadcast on BBC Australia. Global merchandise and licensing distribution rights is handled by BBC Worldwide.
