Malta Film Funds is currently collaborating with Maltese production house Pro.Motion Limited in order to start production on Malta’s first ever full-length animated film, The Golden Calf. Production is scheduled to begin on 2013.
The Golden Calf will be in full 3D and will focus on the story of two eight year-old cousins who go on a treasure hunt across Malta and its sister island, Gozo, after hearing rumors that the Biblical Golden Calf is hidden in the area. Unbeknownst to them, their treasure hunting quest will unearth certain family secrets that should have been left buried.
The animation team behind The Golden Calf will be helmed by Carmel Bonnici, who is the managing director of Pro.Motion. Bonnici’s background involves various animations, credit sequences, and motion graphics for different TV shows and studios, and has produced over 5,000 hours of TV programming to date. There are no release dates yet for the film, and all we have is a single pre-prod still.
