Mario Visits the Real World in Super Mario Odyssey


When it comes to the Super Mario franchise, the eponymous plump mustachioed plumber’s main M.O. is to visit new fantastical worlds for every iteration of his game (in fact, he is known to visit several worlds over the course of a single game.)

However, one thing that most fans would never expect is for a Mario game to take place in a realistic depiction of our world, much less something as urban as New York City. But as further proof that Nintendo is slowly trying new things for the Switch, the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey will feature a location that looks somewhat like NYC, and if the visuals aren’t enough to convince you of the parallel, the place is called “New Donk City.”
