Grammy, Emmy, Tony and Pulitzer winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) and Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (Into the Woods) has been tapped to star in Walt Disney Studios’ Mary Poppins Returns, which is the sequel to the 1964 hybrid musical classic.
Mary Poppins Returns is slated for a December 25, 2018 release. Emmy and DGA Award winner Rob Marshall will be directing and producing with Golden Globe winner Marc Platt and John Deluca. The screenplay is written by David Magee while the new musical score and original songs are composed by Tony winner Marc Shaiman together with another Tony winner Scott Wittman.
Emily Blunt will be playing Mary Poppins while Lin-Manuel Miranda will be portraying Jack, a street lamplighter. The story will happen in London (Depression-era) and focus on an adult Jane and Michael Banks who, together with Michael’s 3 children, are visited by Mary Poppins after experiencing a personal loss. With the use of her magic and with the help of Jack, she helps the family experience joy once more.
