Mazinger Z Returns to the Big Screen

It’s a given that most kids and teens these days might not be so familiar with Go Nagai’s mecha manga and TV franchise, Mazinger Z, but it is still noteworthy news that a Mazinger Z theatrical film is in the works, as it is one of the pioneers of the super robot genre and will be extremely familiar to baby boomers.

Currently, details are sparse but there is already an official website for the project, and a teaser image featuring Mazinger’s chest plates covered in CGI flames (which, oddly enough, looks very similar to the iconic burning Bat symbol used to advertise The Dark Knight Rises.)

If you’re too young to be familiar with the Mazinger Z franchise and can’t be bothered to trawl the Internet in order to find out why it’s such a big deal to the older generation, let it be known that it has a female-shaped mecha that shoots rockets out of its chests.
