VIZ Media Goes Digital with Shonen Jump Alpha

Anime/Manga publisher VIZ Media recently debuted the first issue of their new digital manga Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha at VIZManga.com. The digital magazine will give fans a completely legitimate way to follow their favorite weekly Jump titles such as Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Bakuman, Toriko, and Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, with the only disadvantage being that the online issues are two weeks behind the print installments in Japan.

The debut chapters include Bakuman #162, Bleach #476, Naruto #569, Nura #185, One Piece #652 and Toriko #171, which means it is more useful for longtime fans who want a different venue for their reading. New fans will have to brush up and backtrack first using some other means.

The new digital pub is not free, though. Annual subscription will cost $25.99, giving subscribers 52 weeks of access, for a total of 48 weekly issues. For those who have smaller budgets, single issues can be accessed for four weeks at $0.99. The digital issues can be read straight from the website, but they are working on a VIZ Manga App for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.
