Ladybug and Cat Noir are going feature length. The hit CG series from ZAG is being adapted into a movie, due out in 2021. Miraculous: Awakening will be an animated musical, romantic fantasy adventure showcasing family bonds, responsibility and the hearts of two young souls.
The film was first announced last September at ComiKon İstanbul. It’ll be set at the end of the show’s upcoming fifth season, providing both an origins story and wrapping up loose seasonal ends. Tonally, Awakening is meant to be a mix of Spider-Man and Frozen.
Produced in France by ZAG,Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir debuted in 2015. South Korean studio SAMG provides the animation. Japanese studio Toei Animation consulted. At least 130 half-hour episodes are planned in what’s currently a 5-season run. The series is seen in over 120 countries worldwide. The franchise has also seen success off the screen, generating over $100 million in retail sales in 2017.
In the United States, the series has been seen on Nickelodeon, Netflix, KidsClick and most recently, Disney Channel.
