Last month we reported that Miraculous: Tales of and Cat Noir had been renewed for a fourth and fifth season. Now we know what that encompasses. Series creator ZAG is tapped to provide new episodes of the show until 2021, totalling 130 episodes.
The big episode order is no surprise when you consider just how successful Marinette and her friends have been. With the series seen in over 120 countries, Miraculous branded product generated over $100 million in retail sales in 2017. YouTube videos related to the series have also been watched more than 3.4 billion times. To satiate that online hunger, ZAG is preparing to launch a series of comedic chibi web-shorts later this year.
A lot of that retail success has to be thanks to ZAG’s licensing team, who’ve landed partnerships in pretty much all categories. Over 300 companies worldwide have produced officially licensed product. Through an agreement with Tab Tale, the franchise recently saw its first mobile game. ZAG has signed fashion brand GUESS for a line of children’s clothing in EMEA regions. Ferrero and Burger King have agreed to global food promotions. There’s also Miraculous themed Monopoly, PEZ and, of course, Funko Pops. ZAG isn’t finished, either. As the company is currently at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo courting business relationships in publishing, party goods, international retailer programs, lifestyle products and packaged food tie-ins.
Produced by ZAG in France, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir debuted in 2015. South Korean studio SAMG provides the animation. Japanese studio Toei Animation consulted. A live-action film based on the series has been in early development since 2016.
