Museum Accepting Submissions for Caretoons Creative Cartoon Contest

The National Liberty Museum is currently accepting entries for a one panel cartoon contest called Caretoons, which is sponsored by US Airways. Caretoons was originally created in 2005 after a Danish newspaper published a cartoon that resulted in terrible violence. Caretoons aims instead to channel the powerful art form for a more positive purpose, with the Museum inviting the public to create cartoons that express their personal vision of peace, diversity, and compassion. This seems apt as the National Liberty Museum’s common theme is “liberty expressed through art.”

For this year, the official theme for the Caretoons contest is Building Bridges, and focuses on traits the ability to go bridge the usual traits that serve to divide us, such as language, religion, age, nationality, etc. It is said that these common points of divisiveness can actually serve as points of contact and discovery, with Caretoons serving as the catalyst for exploration and celebration in a playful and open-ended way.
