Mysticons season 2 moves to Nicktoons
Nelvana and Nickelodeon’s girls action series Mysticons is moving to a new home. Starting January 13th at 8AM ET/PT with episode 21, “Three Mysticons and a Baby,” show premieres will now be seen on the Nicktoons network in the United States. Additional premieres are slated in that slot for the weeks to come. Encores will air the following day at 7AM on TeenNick and 8AM on Nicktoons.
Reruns have also been added to Nick Jr. The younger skewing channel will air the show Mondays through Fridays at 12:05PM starting January 8th.
Mysticons debuted on Nickelodeon last August. The series follows the epic tale of four unexpected heroes who transform into legendary warriors and undertake a mythic quest to save the world. Playmates launched a range of action figures and other toys to support the series last fall. Topps will launch a trading card line that ties in with the show’s mobile app within the next month. Dark Horse has pledged to launch a comic book line sometime late this summer and Macmillan Publishers will release a Mysticons novel series starting this June.
Created by Sean Jara and produced by Nelvana, the first episode order for Mysticons consists of 40 half hours. The series is being broadcast as two 20 episode seasons. In the show’s native Canada, Mysticons can be seen on YTV, Teletoon and Nickelodeon. The show’s former slot on Nickelodeon in the United States will now be occupied by SpongeBob Squarepants re-runs.
Unfortunately for Mysticons fans, this move might spell bad news for the fledging series. Nicktoons is a far less popular television channel than the mothership, so when a show gets moved there, it’s usually a sign it’s coming to an end. Fans who want to see the continuing antics of King Gawayne and you know, Arkayna, Em, Piper and Zarya, might do well to support the series merchandise and hope it has landed enough of an audience internationally to warrant more.
