N.E.R.D.S. gets an animated feature courtesy of Elton John’s Rocket Pictures has recently reported that Michael Buckley’s popular illustrated novel series N.E.R.D.S. (National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society) is currently being adapted into an animated family feature by Sir Elton John’s Rocket Pictures.

The N.E.R.D.S. series of illustrated novels, originally launched back in 2009, tells the story of a group of social misanthropes who run a highly secretive spy ring directly under the cover of their elementary school. With danger coming from within the school halls and the outside world, the N.E.R.D.S. must juggle their sworn duties and homework at the same time.

N.E.R.D.S.’ author Michael Buckley is a long time children’s book author, but he is no stranger to animation, having co-created and produced the short lived 2011 Cartoon Network series Robotomy. Buckley is also tapped to write the N.E.R.D.S adaptation himself.

Rocket Pictures, on the other hand, is fresh off the success of Gnomeo and Juliet, which they developed under the banner of Disney. They are also currently developing Will Gallows And The Snake Bellied Troll with Shrek 2’s Kelly Asbury to write and direct.
