Netflix Announces First Animated Lat Am Series, Las Leyendas

Streaming entertainment giant Netflix has recently confirmed a new animated series that will be produced in Latin America. Titled Las Leyendas (The Legends,) the new series will premiere its first 13 episodes worldwide in 2017. The series is written and produced by Spooksville’s James Krieg, and will be based on Anima Studios’ popular children’s film trilogy.

Las Leyendas is set in the 1800s and focuses on the reluctant but heroic teen boy named Leo San Juan. Leo has the uncanny ability to communicate with ghosts and monsters, he’s going to need it when his hometown vanishes into another dimension. Leo must use all of his skills and powers to bring it back, and he won’t have to do it alone because he has the help of the old knight Don Andres, the social media whiz Teodora, the mythological creature Alebrije, and the sugar candy skulls Finado and Moribunda.

Las Leyendas will be executive produced by Fernando de Fuentes and Jose C. Garcia de Letona of Anima Estudios, a Mexican animation studio credited with the production and creation of popular animated content for kids, such as El Chavo Animado and Top Cat: The Movie. James Krieg is a writer and producer best known for his work in several animated series including Scooby-doo! Mystery Incorporated, Ben 10 and Justice League, in addition to Spooksville.
