Netflix Inks Multiyear Deal with Disney
Netflix has recently entered into a multiyear premium pay TV window license deal with The Walt Disney Studio for North America, which means Netflix is now the exclusive US subscription TV services for first-run live-action and animated movies from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios and Disneynature movie titles.
The deal will be effective starting in 2016, with new theatrically released Disney feature films being made available for Netflix subscribers during the pay TV window across multiple platforms (TV, tablets, computers, mobile phones).
Disney’s direct to video new releases will be part of the deal, and will be made available on Netflix’s service starting from 2013. Disney also has a deal in place with Starz for its movies, which will be effective until 2014. Additionally, both Netflix and Disney have agreed to a multi-year catalog deal that gives US Netflix members access to classic Disney titles such as Dumbo, Pocahontas, and Alice in Wonderland.
