Netflix to Launch New Mr. Peabody and Sherman Series
This coming October 9, streaming giant Netflix will be introducing a refreshed take on the iconic Mr. Peabody and Sherman franchise, which originally ran as four-minute shorts interjected into episodes of the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show and featured the bespectacled canine Mr. Peabody and his “pet kid” Sherman traveling through time and meeting famous historical figures.
Titled The New Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show, the new series is 2D animated and will take its cue from the 1960s shorts as well as DreamWorks Animation’s recent CG movie. The biggest difference is the format, as the new show will have the duo as hosts of a late-night comedy show. The talk show will serve as the platform for interviewing the various historical guests that they find using their WABAC time machine.
“The love I have for Jay Ward and his creations, and his comedic tone, have been an inspiration for me ever since I was a kid,” says executive producer Dave Smith during an interview with Variety, “We loved the straight-up lampooning of historical figures … We mixed it up a lot, while retaining the comedy of the Jay Ward show.”
