Streaming service Netflix saw massive success with the mature animated comedy series Bojack Horseman, so it is not surprising that they’re looking to fund more original animated content. Netflix’s latest move is to order 10 episodes of a new series titled Tuca & Bertie, from Michael Eisner’s The Tornante company.
Tuca & Bernie’s description points to two 30-year old bird women that share an apartment building and a deep friendship. The first one is the cocky carefree toucan named Tuca, while her friend is the anxious daydreaming songbird named Bertie.
The new series is not unfamiliar ground for Netflix. Mainly because its creator is none other than Bojack Horseman’s production designer, Lisa Hanawalt, while her co-executive producers include Bojack Horseman’s creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright, Steven A. Cohen, and Tiffany Haddish. Tiffany will also lend her voice to the Tuca character. Shadowmachine, which is the studio that made Bojack, will produce Tuca & Bertie.
