Netflix Picks Up Chinese Hit Boonie Bears
Netflix has not yet taken a break from bolstering their already impressive library of licensed and original content, this time around acquiring the rights to stream the 2016 animated Chinese feature, Boonie Bears: The Big Top Secret, as well as its companion TV series Boonie Bears: Spring into Action.
For the uninitiated, the Boonie Bears franchise revolves around the misadventures of a pair of bears named Briar and Bramble, who team up in order to try and stop Logger Vick from destroying their home, with hilarious results. The series first debuted in 2012, and has since aired more than 200 episodes on CCTV and Beijing Television Network.
The first feature film, Boonie Bears to the Rescue, was released in 2014. The third film Boonie Bears: The Big Top Secret was released in China in January 2016. A fourth film was also released a year later.
The deal was presided over by LA-based Viva Pictures, which represented the Chinese producer, Fantawild.
