Netflix’s Castlevania dazzles in debut trailer

Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for the upcoming Castlevania animated series and their adaptation of the classic Konami franchise looks great. In a nod to its video game roots, they even introduced the trailer with a Nintendo Entertainment System boot up! The four episode series will debut on the subscription service on July 7th and details “the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.”

Netflix’s Castlevania is a big shift for production company Frederator Studios, who have historically handled more lighthearted fare. They’re co-producing it with Powerhouse Animation Studios. The series is being written by acclaimed author Warren Ellis and executive produced by Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar. The show has its roots from an abandoned Castlevania III film project Ellis was working on back in 2007.

You can set your queue now to get ready for Netflix’s Castlevania.

Fun fact: the NES Netflix screen you saw in the beginning? It’s a real app.
