Viacom’s Nickelodeon Animation is said to be prepping a new animated series for Netflix titled Pinky Malinky. This is part of Viacom’s pivot towards developing shows for OTTs and other third parties. Pinky Malinky was co-created by Chris Garbutt and Rikke Asbjoern and greenlit by Nickelodeon back in 2015. The show follows a mockumentary format and focuses on an anthropomorphic hot dog with a hyperkinetic personality..
The lead characters of Pinky Malinky first appeared on Nickelodeon in 2016, with the help of a very active social media presence. The Netflix series is slated to debut this summer, with two seasons consisting of 59 episodes total confirmed. Netflix will be distributing the show, but mother company Viacom will retain rights for consumer products.
